Dettori to pull in crowds on Gravitas
PREVIEW: TURKEY, Sunday
Veliefendi: Bosphorus Cup (Group 2) 1m4f
FRANKIE DETTORI, very much the human star of the Turkish International Racing Festival, looks to hold a sound chance of success in the Bosphorus Cup on Godolphin's Gravitas.
A winner in Dubai in February, Gravitas has not really built on that achievement but posted a solid effort to chase home Many Volumes at Kempton a fortnight ago on his return from a five-month lay-off.
He has two fellow British representatives in the shape of the progressive handicappers, Buccellati and Love Galore.
Buccellati will have the fast ground he craves, was a little unlucky when fourth at Royal Ascot and comes here on the back of a comfortable success in a return visit to the Berkshire track.
Love Galore's finest hour came when he made up a huge amount of ground to land a decent prize at Glorious Goodwood. But there must be some doubt as to whether he will have recovered fully from a modest run at Sandown only last weekend.
Both Buccellati and Love Galore seem best off a strong gallop, and this should be provided by the top Turkish contender, Inspector, who won last year's Turkish Derby and is an inveterate front-runner.
Further overseas interest is provided by Dickens, the 2006 German Derby runner-up who is winless in over two years but showed that his ability remained when storming home to get within a length and a half of the winner, Sixties Icon, in a Group 3 at Goodwood last month.
Coral: 3 Dickens, Gravitas, 100-30 Inspector, 5 Buccellati, 7 Tiramisu,8 Love Galore, 40 Out Of Control
>>THE MALAZGIRT TROPHY, a 1m event restricted to purebred arabians, is the night' third international affair and features the French duo Quaolina and Nowann, who finished one-two in a 6f Group 1 at Newbury seven weeks ago. Richard Hills rides Quaolina.
