Toormore still unbeaten after Craven victory

Report: Newmarket, Thursday

Novae Bloodstock Insurance Craven Stakes (Group 3) 3yo, colts & geldings, 1m

LAST season's champion two-year-old Toormore came through his Qipco 2,000 Guineas trial with his unbeaten record preserved, while second-favourite Be Ready finished dead last.

Toormore added to his three juvenile wins in comfortable enough fashion, seeing off The Grey Gatsby by two lengths after the 16-1 chance wandered a little in the final furlong.

The Richard Hannon-trained evens favourite was quick away and led in the early stages. He was briefly joined by The Grey Gatsby before powering away again at the death.

Betfred left the winner unchanged at 7-1 for the Guineas while BetVictor cut him to 4-1 (from 7). Betfred did, however, chop the runner-up's price, making him 33-1 (from 50).

"He felt like he was finding a bit in front and is a nice moving horse which is always good at Newmarket. He has a good attitude and is entitled to take his chance," said winning rider Ryan Moore.

Be Ready, meanwhile, ran no sort of race whatsoever and after failing to respond to pressure was eased down by Silvestre de Sousa to cross the line a distant last.

"I am disappointed with him," said his trainer Saeed Bin Suroor. "We can't find any reason why but we know he is better than that."
