Chantilly: Prix Turenne meeting (turf)
THE beautifully-bred Deluxe only needed to be kept up to her task to make a pleasing winning debut in a maiden on the under to the Listed Prix Turenne at Chantilly.
Stephane Pasquier: impressed
PICTURE: Mark CranhamRidden by Stephane Pasquier for owner Khalid Abdullah, Deluxe was always towards the outside and ran on well to win with something in hand from her six rivals.
Pasquier, who never went for the whip and only had to use his hands and heels on the winner, said: "She did well from her outside draw and had a lovely action. She's surely a filly with a big future."
The Andre Fabre-trained Storm Cat filly is out of celebrated broodmare Hasili, who is already the dam of top-class sire Dansili and Group 1 winners Banks Hill, Heat Haze, Intercontinental, Cacique and Champs Elysees.
Another two-year-old to impress on the card was Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum’s Mubtassin, who opened his account with an impressive display in the maiden over a mile.
The son of Red Ransom, who is out of Style Setter and is a full brother to the 2003 Vodafone Oaks winner Casual Look, made every yard of the running in the hands of Davy Bonilla to surge clear in the straight to win by five lengths.
Winning trainer Freddy Head said: “He is not the easiest of horses and I think he will turn into a nice three -year-old. Mubtassin may not run again this season but appears to have a very bright future.”
