Jockey Club winner Saonois sale put on hold
France: Saonois will not be sold before the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on Sunday week, for which he is a general 10-1 shot.
It is understood a member of the Qatar royal family is interested in Saonois but he will remain in the ownership of baker Pascal Treyve and his trainer Jean-Pierre Gauvin for now.
The winner of the Prix du Jockey Club came through his Arc trial with flying colours. Ridden by Antoine Hamelin, he burst through at the furlong marker to win the Prix Niel going away from Bayrir, who had previously won the Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes at Arlington.
Gauvin said: "He will not be changing hands before the Arc and will remain in the same ownership and be ridden by the same jockey. He came out of the Niel in good shape and all is going well at the moment."
He added: "He will have a little light work at home and some more on the grass at Lyon-Parilly racecourse on Sunday. We always take him there before a big race."
If all goes smoothly, Saonois will be supplemented in the Arc a week today at a cost of €100,000.
