Multiple Group 1 winner Marchand D'Or retired

France: Veteran sprinter Marchand D'Or has been retired, bringing to an end a career in which he won five Group 1s and more than £1 million in prize-money.

Trained for five seasons by Freddy Head before moving last year to Mikel Delzangles, the nine-year-old gelding was ridden in all 40 starts by Davy Bonilla.

"I'm very pleased he's been retired in good health," said Bonilla. "His great asset was his burst of acceleration at the finish. He was capable of sprinting for 1,000m [5f] and then still accelerating."

Marchand D'Or recorded a hat-trick in the Prix Maurice de Gheest and also scored at the top level in the Prix de l'Abbaye and the July Cup.

He will be reunited with his dam Fedora at Gilles Deroubaix's Haras de Sou.
