Mainsail impresses in Listed stroll for Bary
Report: France, Wednesday
Maisons-Laffitte: Prix Matchem (Listed) 1m1f [Straight], 3yo colts & geldings
MAINSAIL (Pascal Bary/Christophe Soumillon) looks to have inherited plenty of his half-brother Rail Link's talent on the evidence of this decisive success.
Soumillon sat motionless aboard Khalid Abdullah's son of Oasis Dream for most of the 1m1f trip, allowing Olivier Peslier to set a generous pace aboard Star On The Rocks.
When asked the question, Mainsail lengthened impressively to cut down the leader and ran right away from his six rivals in the final furlong, before being eased to score by three lengths.
Star On The Rocks stuck to his task well and just held second from another Abdullah runner, Moonday Sun.
"That was a good-looking field and he's done it very nicely," said Bary.
Having only run once as a two-year-old, Mainsail went down narrowly to Princess Zahra Aga-Khan's Mandour on his re-appearance, before opening his account in impressive fashion here last month.
Bary will now aim the colt at the 1m1½f Prix Daphnis on June 30.
"All being well he'll step up to the good Group 3 at Longchamp," he said.
