Ganay next Maxios after d'Harcourt victory

Report: France, Sunday

Longchamp: Prix d'Harcourt (Group 2) 1m2f, turf, 4yo+

MAXIOS (Jonathan Pease/Stephane Pasquier) added his name to the list of winners of the Prix d'Harcourt, which include Urban Sea and Manduro, when he landed the Group 2 in style on Sunday.

Running in the colours of the Niarchos family, the son of Monsun raced in third under Pasquier as Don Bosco took the seven-runner field along.

He quickened clear in the straight, but Maxios had too much speed and ran out an authoratative winner with Saga Dream finishing third.

Unbeaten as a juvenile, Maxios failed to win as a three-year-old, but scored in Group 3 company last term.

Three of the last seven winners of the d'Harcourt - Manduro, Cutlass Bay and Giofra - graduated to Group 1 honours and the five-year-old will try to emulate them.

Alan Cooper, racing manager to the Niarchos family, said: "When I first saw him over the winter he had improved physically. All being well he'll go for the Prix Ganay."
