Delzangles and Rispoli land Malleret with Rim

Report: France, Sunday

Saint-Cloud: Abu Dhabi Prix de Malleret (Group 2) 1m4f, 3yo fillies

THE Mikel Delzangles-trained Pacific Rim was given a lovely ride by Umberto Rispoli and took advantage of the slow early pace from a prominent position to run away with the Prix de Malleret.

Settled on the heels of the leaders, Pacific Rim kicked clear in the home straight to win comfortably at 61-10, with 24-1 shot Chalnetta second and Orion Love third at 12-1.

The British-trained pair of Contradict and Oaks third The Lark finished out of the places, with Ferevia, who was the 23-10 favourite with the Michael Bell-trained runner, finishing fourth. The Lark, a 5-2 shot, chased her home, with Ryan Moore beating just one home on Contradict.

Delzangles said: "The race was made to measure for her, she settled in behind the leader which is the right place when they don't go too fast.

"She did it well but then she was only repeating what she did last time. We'll have to see how she recovers but normally she would be aimed at the Prix Vermeille."

Bell said of The Lark: "I don't know what they're calling the going but it's not soft. There's no mud coming in on the horses and it's almost genuinely good ground.

"They crawled and she was stuck in a pocket. Staying is the name of the game with her and a slow pace combined with where she got shuffled back to meant the die was cast."
