Former Coral director Ron Hemmings dies at 77
THE funeral of former Coral operations director Ron Hemmings, who died after a short illness on December 23, aged 77, will take place at Three Counties Crematorium in Braintree, Essex, at midday on January 18.
Hemmings, a bookmaker for more than 30 years, joined Coral when the company he worked for in Bristol was taken over. A divisional director, he became Coral’s racing and trading director and then operations director, before he retired in 1992 and was succeeded by Vaughn Ashdown.
Betfred chief executive Trevor Beaumont, who worked with Hemmings at Coral, said: "As a relative youngster, I looked up to Ron. He was a really good operations man."
Hemmingsalso represented Coral on industry matters, notably through the company’s membership of the trade association Bola.
He retired to look after his wife Pat, who was in ill health. She survives him, with daughters Lindsey, Lorraine, Tamara and Stephanie.
The funeral service will be followed by a gathering at the Kings Head, Gosfield, Essex. Those intending to attend are asked to contact Lindsey Hemmings by email at email@example.com, or Lorraine Hemmings on 01376 326568.
