Fontwell expects Sunday card to go ahead

FONTWELL'S fixture on Sunday is set to go  ahead after just 7mm of rain fell overnight on Friday.

A total of 58mm hit the Sussex venue in the previous 36 hours, leaving the ground heavy, but clerk of the course Edward  Arkell reported at 10am on Saturday that he anticipates no further problems provided the weather forecast is accurate.
Arkell said: "We've been told to expect only scattered showers this afternoon, followed by a dry period going into the  night.

"There may be some more showers tomorrow, but nothing too heavy, so, at the moment, I'm expecting the meeting to go  ahead. No inspection has been planned."

Arkell added: "It might well be windy over the next  24 hours, but that may be a good thing from our point of view, as, although we  shall have to make sure no damage is caused, it will tend to dry the ground  a little before Sunday's action starts."
