Folkestone abandons Saturday meeting
FOLKESTONE is the latest course forced to abandon a fixture with officials calling off Saturday's meeting.
A 3.45pm inspection had be called on Friday with the threat of further heavy snow on top of freezing temperatures, but the course cancelled the fixture even before the scheduled inspection was held.
Clerk of the course Andy Waite said: "We've had two inches of snow this morning and, although the sun came out, there has been no thaw since.
"We're below freezing now and set to get even colder tonight, and we're not due any sun until midday tomorrow so there was very little chance of any improvement before racing tomorrow. We thought it was best to call if off now."
Folkestone's abandonment leaves all-weather racing at Southwell and Lingfield in Britain on Saturday, while there is a 7.30am inspection at Sandown on Saturday.
