Slade Power digs deep for Belgrave Stakes success
Report: Fairyhouse, Sunday
Belgrave Stakes (Listed) 6f, 3yo+
SLADE POWER showed an impressive burst of speed to collar Arctic close home in testing conditions at Fairyhouse on Sunday.
The Eddie Lynam-trained three-year-old, who scored at Listed level at Haydock last time, was winning his fourth race from six starts but he was made to work hard to land the spoils.
Wayne Lordan produced the son of Dutch Art late and his mount found just enough to repel the game Arctic, who took up the running approaching the final furlong.
Edward Lynam: said Slade Power will be aimed at Betfred Sprint CupPICTURE: Mark Cranham
Lynam, who said his main target will be the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock in September, was delighted.
He said: "He is one I am dreaming about and could be very good. I was going to bring him to Newbury yesterday [for the Hackwood Stakes] but I chickened out of it.
"He seemed to handle the ground well, though Wayne Lordan said he wasn't in love with it."
Santo Padre kept on for third but Gordon Lord Byron, sent off the 2-1 favourite, could never get to the leaders from off the pace.
