IRELAND'S leading novice chaser Flemenstar has been made the 5-4 favourite with Paddy Power for Sunday's Powers Gold Cup at Fairyhouse.
Flemenstar is unbeaten on his last four chase starts, landing the Grade 1 Frank Ward Solicitors Arkle Novice Chase in January and earning a rating of 157, the highest achieved by any novice in Ireland this season.
On Tuesday he was among the 12 remaining in the Powers Gold Cup setting up a potential clash with the Willie Mullins-trained pair Bishopsfurze and Call The Police, both of whom Flemenstar has yet to meet.
Call The Police and Rathlin were rated next best in the betting at 7-2. Blackstairmountain and Lambro, who Flemenstar has already beaten, were among the four withdrawals.
Fairyhouse officials will begin watering the track again on Thursday for the start of the three-day meeting on Sunday.
The course received 10mm of water last Friday, but with showers forecast early this week, officials stopped watering.
Only 1.5mm of rain fell and with a dry forecast for the remainder of the week watering will resume in a bid to maintain the good ground.
Manager Peter Roe said: "The forecast is dry and the plan is to resume watering on Thursday with the aim of maintaining good ground. We are monitoring the situation in conjunction with our clerk of the course Brendan Sheridan."
