HAYLEY TURNER will become only the second female jockey ever to ride in the Investec Derby, after it was confirmed on Thursday that she will ride Cavaleiro for Marcus Tregoning.
Turner follows Alex Greaves, who rode Portugese Lil in the 1996 running of the race, finishing last of the 20 runners. While Cavaleiro is asbig as 100-1 for the June 2 Classic, Turner is happy to take her chance.
"It's obviously nice to have a ride in the big race," she told Racing UK. "I won on him last year then Richard Mullenwon on him when I was injured.
"He ran in the Lingfield Derby Trial on the all-weather which was probably not ideal and I'm really pleased to get a ride in the race.
"He's progressing with age and I think is a horse who will suit the course as he's a strong traveller. He'll definitely stay."
Turner was in winning action on Primaeval, one of the leading ante-post fancies for the Royal Hunt Cup, at Goodwood on Thursday.
