Lavelle targets Imperial Cup with Tocca Ferro
TOCCA FERRO, who had been mooted as a potential Champion Hurdle contender before struck by injury at the start of last year, could return to the track in the Paddy Power Imperial Cup on March 10, according to trainer Emma Lavelle.
The Betfair Hurdle on February 11 had been under consideration for Sarah Prior and Tim Syder's seven-year-old but following a positive scan earlier this week, Lavelle revealed plans to target the Sandown race.
"I've been cautious but Tocca Ferro had a scan on Tuesday and it was perfect. We will be cracking on now but he won't be ready in time for Newbury. Realistically, we are looking at the Imperial Cup," the trainer told the the Daily Mail.
Lavelle, who got offthe mark for 2012 with Penny Max on New Year's Day, has also revealed plans for Kentford Grey Lady, an impressive winner at Kempton on December 27.
She told her website: "She was deeply impressive winning the mares hurdle and certainly looks to be going in the right direction.
"My plan is to go to Ascot for a three mile Grade 2 hurdle [registered as the Warfield Mares' Hurdle] at the end of the month. She certainly has a big future ahead of her."
