Ellison eyeing big-race win with Top Notch

BRIAN ELLISON, who is enjoying a fabulous season, aims to continue his good form in Saturday's Betfred Cambridgeshire with Top Notch Tonto, a horse the trainer thinks has nearly a stone in hand if the ground is soft.

The progressive three-year-old, who is 35 of the 103 left in the Cambridgeshire, will always hold a special place in Ellison and jockey Dale Swift's hearts after providing them with their first success at Group level in the Superior Mile at Haydock last time.

He shot to the head of the betting for the prestigious handicap following that win and Ellison, who is fast closing in on his record tally of Flat winners from last season, is hoping conditions are in his favour at Newmarket on Saturday.

"This lad is only three but he's taken us to heights we've never been before as he won the Superior Mile at Haydock last time out to provide us with our first Group winner," said the trainer, speaking to the Racing & Football Outlook for a stable tour.

"He picked up a penalty for the win and his official rating shot up to 112, but he runs in the Cambridgeshire on Saturday off 99 and if the ground is soft he's thrown in - he'd have at least 12lb in hand in my opinion."

Saturday's card at Newmarket also features the Group 1 Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes and Cheveley Park Stakes as well as the Group 2 Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes, which was won by Frankel in 2010.

The Sun Chariot is likely to feature a clash between Falmouth first and second Elusive Kate and Sky Lantern, while Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Just The Judge could also line up.

La Collina, a shock winner of the Group 1 Matron Stakes this month, has been supplemented, meaning a possible final field of 11 fillies and mares.

The Connolly's Red Mills Cheveley Park Stakes also looks a belter with ace juveniles Lucky Kristale, Rizeena and Kiyoshi remaining on course for Saturday's contest. David Wachman has added Come To Heel to the race.

Classy Chesham winner Berkshire, not see since his Royal Ascot victory, is one of nine in the Royal Lodge. Aidan O'Brien's only representative is Kingfisher.
