Opera winner Nahrain remains in training

NAHRAIN, winner of the Group 1 Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp last year and runner-up in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf, will remain in training as a four-year-old.

Trained by Roger Varian, Nahrain has only tasted defeat once in five starts, and will be back in action later this season.

Quoted on his website Varian said: "Nahrain hasn't been back that long and we are taking things slowly with her.

"There is no need to rush her back to the track as there aren't too many options for older fillies early on in the year with most of the suitable races being from mid-summer onwards.

"She is back cantering now and looks a stronger model this year. She is moving nicely and I'm very happy with her."

Varian also had news on Ektihaam, last seen finishing last of nine in the Dewhurst at Newmarket. The three-year-old will return to action in a conditions race at Newbury on Friday.

He said: "Ektihaam has done really well over the winter and I have been pleased with his work this spring.

"He will run at Newbury on Friday, which looks a nice starting point for him. We are hoping he can put his Dewhurst run behind him and that the step up to ten furlongs will suit him well."
