O'Brien outlines Duke plans

AIDAN O'BRIEN nominated the Qatar Prix de l'Arc De Triomphe and the Breeders' Cup as possible targets for Duke Of Marmalade after withdrawing the five-time Group 1 winner from the Irish Champion Stakes.

A deluge of rain on Friday put paid to the four-year-old's bid to extend his winning sequence at Leopardstown.

Although the Arc was mentioned as a possibility, Ladbrokes do not quote him for the Longchamp showpiece and instead have stablemate Soldier Of Fortune as the 4-1 second favourite.

O'Brien said: "We will have to look at plans and the Arc is a race we will have to look at.

"Soldier Of Fortune definitely goes there and we will consider Duke - as well as looking at the Breeders' Cup.
"The Duke has had a tough season and we don't want to subject him to soft ground now, with the rest of the year in mind."

Ladbrokes also make Duke Of Marmalade their 3-1 joint-favourite for the Breeders' Cup Classic alongside stablemate Henrythenavigator.

O'Brien added that Ballydoyle's star stayer Yeats is unlikely to take up his entry in this week's National Express Doncaster Cup on Town Moor.

He said: "Yeats is unlikely to run at Doncaster. He could go for the Irish St Leger, butif Septimus runs there then he will go to France for the Prix du Cadran."
