Favourite Mahbooba lands Meydan feature

Report: UAE, Thursday

Meydan: Al Rashidiya Trial Presented By Longines (conditions race) 1m1f, turf, 4yo+

FAVOURITE Mahbooba obliged for jockey Christophe Soumillon to convincingly land the feature race on the opening night of the 2012 Dubai World Cup Carnival.

Last year's UAE 1,000 Guineas heroine took up the lead 300 yards out from the third placedDerbaas and accelerated away from the Mickael Barzalona-ridden Laajooj back in second.

They went a slow pace and the Mike de Kock-trained 11-8 favourite took advantage of the fact she was claiming weight off her rivals being the only filly in the race, and made light work of it having won by four and a quarter lengths.

Soumillon said: "She is a very good filly as we saw all last year, both here and in Europe. I needed to ask her for an effort turning for home but she then picked up well and quickened away."

Assistant trainer to Kock, Trevor Brown added: "That means we have plenty of options as she stays further, handles the Tapeta and clearly likes quick ground. I will have to talk to Mike and see how she is in the morning but I would imagine the Cape Verdi, for fillies and mares could be an option."
