Spacious scrambles home in conditions race

REPORT: DONCASTER, Friday

CHEVELEY Park Stud's 1,000 Guineas runner-up Spacious, unraced since finishing fourth in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, earned a return to Group 1 company as she scrambled to victory by a nose under Robert Winston in a slowly run race for the 1m conditions event.

"She had a long time off, that turned into a 3f sprint and the ground was plenty soft enough for her," said trainer James Fanshawe.

"The aim is to go for the SunChariot Stakes. And she will be a nice filly for next year."

Kite Wood is a 20-1 shot for next year's Derby with Ladbrokes and Stan James after winning the first division of the juvenile maiden but may now be put away for the season by trainer Michael Jarvis, while division two-winning filly the Miniver Rose will have "a lot of nice entries next year" according to Richard Hannon junior.
