Smokey Oakey looks set for Lincoln repeat bid

DAME JUDI DENCH's 2008 Lincoln winner Smokey Oakey is likely to bid for a repeat victory in this year's race at Doncaster on March 28.

Smokey Oakey, who went on to success in the Group 3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown and has been gelded during the winter, won't be joined by former stablemate and last year's third Babodana who is now at stud.

Trainer, Mark Tompkins, said: "I will be entering Smokey Oakey again in the hope that he can repeat last year's success. He's back in now and has just started to trot - we're getting him ready to canter so we'll see if we can get him ready."

Entries for the 156-year-old race, which close on Tuesday, will however include another Tompkins inmate in Pattern-race performer Alan Devonshire. Of the four-year-old, 13th behind New Approach in the Derby, Tompkins added: "It's the same story with him - he's fine and we'll try to get him ready."
