Allegretto to miss Doncaster Cup in favour of Park Hill
ALLEGRETTO will tackle the Goffs/DBS Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster on Thursday rather than take up an alternative engagement in Friday's National Express Doncaster Cup.
The five-year-old will be returning to a staying trip following a fair fourth behind Lush Lashes in the 1m4f Yorkshire Oaks.
Chris Richardson, managing director for owners Cheveley Park Stud, said: "The ground may not be ideal and she obviously prefers further than this trip but, under the circumstances, this seemed the better option.
"I think it will be tough to get two miles and two furlongs on the ground and two miles is really her trip.
"She's in good form, and although she does have to give weight away, this looked a good opportunity to get a run into her.
"All being well, her final target will be Longchamp's Prix Royal-Oak, which she won last year, at the end of next month."
William Jarvis is worried about the soft ground for Gravitation in the Park Hill. The Newmarket trainer had high hopes for the daughter of Galileo following her Group 3 success over subsequent Deauville winner Folk Opera at Glorious Goodwood but they are tempered by the expected testing conditions on Town Moor.
"I'm a bit concerned about the ground, but she's in good form and I hope she runs well," said Jarvis. "She should get the trip and I'm hoping for the best."
Plenty of cut in the ground and a return toa more suitable distance is expected to bring out the best in Gull Wing.
"She's probably got her optimum trip and optimum ground, so we are expecting a big run," said her trainer Michael Bell.
"She ran well at York, when just beaten by Yellowstone, and the last time the going and the distance didn't suit. Tomorrow she's got her underfoot conditions and her trip."
