The Betchworth Kid coasts to Mallard win
REPORT: MALLARD STAKES, Friday
THE BETCHWORTH KID continued the excellent record for three-year-olds in the 1m6½f Mallard Stakes, easing past Bollin Felix to win tidily.
The Michael Bell-trained gelding was almost last turning into the straight but travelled up ominously well, taking the lead from Bollin Felix with a furlong to run and pulling away to win at 10-1.
Joint-favourite Bollin Felix was clear of the remainder in second with La Vecchia Scuola staying on for third at 20-1 ahead of 16-1 chance Mull Of Dubai.
A mud-splattered Hayley Turner rode the winner and said: "They went very quick early on and he was dropping himself out the rear.
"I had to give him a smack after three furlongs to get him going."
She added: "He's a horse who doesn't like being crowded and needed some room in the straight - when he did, he picked up the bridle well."
Runner-up Bollin Felix is engaged in the Newmarket marathon and his odds were cut from 25-1 into 20-1 by sponsors Totesport.
