Champagne Stakes confirmed for Berkshire

CHESHAM winner Berkshire will have his next start in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster's St Leger meeting in September, connectons confirmed on Thursday.

The Paul Cole-trained colt, who runs in the colours of H R H Sultan Ahmad Shah, was third in a Newbury maiden in May before heading to Royal Ascot for the Chesham.

Ridden by Jim Crowley, he ran out an impressive winner from the well-regarded Bunker.

The victory earned him quotes of 20-1 for the Qipco 2,000 Guineas and 25-1 for the Investec Derby and more should be known after his Doncaster appearance.

Cole's son and assistant Oliver tweeted on Thursday morning: "Berkshire is in great form, he is getting bigger and stronger all the time. The Champagne Stakes will be his next run."
