Sprint Cup glory for African Rose

REPORT: SPRINT CUP, Saturday

AFRICAN ROSE showed a blistering turn of foot to lift theGroup 1 Ladbrokes Sprint Cup. The 7-2 favourite was an excellent second to Marchand D'Or at Deauville last time out and proved that performance was no fluke with a comfortable victory.

Settled towards the rear of the stands' side group, African Rose came with a strong late challenge to lift the 6f event. Winning trainer Criquette Head-Maarek was delighted with her filly's performance:

"It is fantastic. Doing what she has done, she has proved she isa good filly. She's tough and she can go anywhere now."

Winning jockey Stephane Pasquier added: "I am very happy. She's a good filly and although she was a bit excited before the race she showed a wonderful turn of foot."

Assertive, trained by Richard Hannon ran a blinder in second, while ante-post favourite Utmost Respect ran a creditable third.
