Derek Thompson: recovering in hospital from a meningitis scare

RACING broadcaster Derek Thompson was described as "brighter" on Tuesday, while he awaited the results of tests for viral meningitis at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge.
Thompson was rushed to the hospital by ambulancefrom his home in Ashley, Newmarket on Saturday evening when sufffering from an unbearable headache.
There, Thompson had an MRI scan, but a lumbar puncture to test for meningitis was delayed until Tuesday morning.
Wife Julie said: "He had a lumbar puncture but there are still no results. He has been sleeping alot but is looking a lot brighter today and is recovering slowly."
Thompson had been due in action at Wolverhampton on Monday but his illness meant that, excluding holidays, he had to have his first day off in 25 years.
