Deja-vu as Royal Confidence wins again
REPORT: SCEPTRE STAKES, Thursday
SHE won at last year's meeting and once again Royal Confidence got her head in front on Town Moor with victory in the 7f Listed Sceptre Stakes.
Ridden by Michael Hills, who hadearlier been narrowly beaten on Damien in the valuable 2-Y-O Stakes, the Barry Hills-trained three-year-old ran down Chantilly Tiffany and Jimmy Fortune to win at 4-1.
Red Dune, the 7-2 favourite, cut out most of the running under Philip Robinson, whowas looking for a double after winning the opener on Secrecy.
But she was passed with a furlong and a half to run by 12-1 top-weight Chantilly Tiffany, who had shown improved form to win in Dusseldorf last time.
The Ed Dunlop-trained daughter of Pivotal ran on strongly but was powerless to resist the thrust of Royal Confidence, who won by a neck.
Festoso came in third at 8-1, three-quarters of a length further back, despite not having run for 342 days and rearing at the start, just ahead of Red Dune, who weakened on the run to the line.
Barry Hills' sonand assistant Charlie said: "She saw the seven furlongs out well and gets a mile too.
"She has been running well all year without winning and has plenty of options towards thebackend, including the Sun Chariot."
