Decorated Knight to miss Winter Derby
ANTE-POST favourite Decorated Knight is set to miss the Betway Winter Derby on Saturday week in favour of a Group 1 bid in Dubai.
Speaking to the Racing Post on Thursday, Tony Nerses, racing manager to owners Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar, said: "Decorated Knight is heading out to Dubai on February 22nd to compete in the Group 1 Jebel Hatta on Super Saturday."
On Thursday morning, Decorated Knight was 2-1 favourite with the sponsors for the Winter Derby after he had won the Listed Winter Derby Trial over the same course and distance.
The Roger Charlton-trained five-year-old improved throughout 2016, winning two of his last three starts of the season and beaten a short head by Tullius in a Group 3 at Epsom on his other run.
The Jebel Hatta has been won five times by British-based trainers this decade, including with Tryster, a former Winter Derby winner, last year.
Decorated Knight is not the only Winter Derby contender whose participation is far from certain. Arab Spring, second in the Winter Derby Trial, is off to Qatar, while Mutakayyef's next target will be decided after a workout at Chelmsford on Thursday.
