Guineas ground changed to good to firm
THE ground at Newmarket for the Qipco 2,000 Guineas has been changed to good to firm (from good to firm, good in places) after a dry night.
The Rowley Mile has been watered in recent days and will ride evenly across the track, according to clerk of the course Michael Prosser.
"It walks evenly the whole way," he said on the Morning Line.
"We watered on Wednesday with a quarter of an inch, did the same on Friday morning and added a couple of courses last night.
"We might get a shower this morning - may be 1mm - but it's set to brighten up with a high of 16C and the ground could quicken up from today to tomorrow."
An updated GoingStick reading of 9.0 was taken at 9am. Broken down it was 9.1 stands' side, 9.0 centre 9.0 and 9.0 far side.
In the betting for the big race due off at 3.50, Dawn Approach (7-4) is still holding on to general 2,000 Guineas favouritism from Toronado (2-1). However Coral (7-4) and BetVictor (15-8) can't split them, while on Betfair Dawn Approach is 2.94 and Toronado 3.05.
Racegoers heading to Newmarket should note the clockwise M25 between J25 for Enfield and J27 for M11 is likely to rema in shut until lunchtime after a chemical spill, according to Essex Police.
