Late surge sees Goulanes land Towton spoils

Report: Wetherby, Saturday Towton Novices' Chase (Grade 2) 3m1f, 5yo+

GOULANES and Super Duty served up a thrilling finish to the Towton, with the David Pipe-trained Goulanes swooping late to deny the runner-up.

Not without incident, Restless Harry ensured a true test, in which Fill The Power took a nasty looking fall when still in contention with the race yet to unravel.

A string of small jumping errors soon ended Restless Harry's chance as Fentara and Super Duty kicked on from the front, with Fourjacks and Goulanes in close proximity.

Heading to the last, Fourjacks had run his race and a bad blunder at that fence ended Fentara's chance, leaving Super Duty clear.

Hard ridden by Jason Maguire, the leader wasn't stopping but was powerless to the last surge of Goulanes who was having his first start over fences and looks a novice of considerable potential.

BetVictor were taken with the winning performance, cutting Goulanes to 16-1 (from 33-1) for the RSA and 10-1 (from 25-1) for the National Hunt Chase.
