GRAND NATIONAL-winning jockey Daryl Jacob will miss the lucrative Christmas and New Year period, including the ride on Kauto Stone in the William Hill King George VI Chase, after he was hit with a ten-day ban by the stewards at Wincanton on Thursday.
Jacob was on board the Nick Williams-trained Ulis De Vassy when he stopped riding momentarily in the finish to a 2m handicap hurdle having appeared to mistake a path crossing the track for the finish line.
He rousted his mount when realising his mistake but was unable to get past Nick Scholfield on Quaddick Lake. Ulis De Vassy was beaten a neck.
The stewards banned Jacob "for failing to ride out on a horse that could have been placed first".
Jacob was banned from December 20 - December 22 inclusive and December 26 to January 1 inclusive.
With Ruby Walsh expected to be riding in Ireland over the Christmas period, Jacob could have expected to pick up a handful of useful mounts for champion trainer Paul Nicholls, including in the Coral Welsh National at Chepstow on December 27.
