Dream Ahead: as short as 12-1 for the 2,000 Guineas after Prix Morny win

Middle Park or Dewhurst next for Dream Ahead

DAVID SIMCOCK on Monday started to consider future options for Sunday's impressive Darley Prix Morny winner Dream Ahead, who provided the talented trainer with a first Group 1 victory.

Despite having had just one racecourse outing going into Sunday's race, a nine length victory in a Nottingham maiden, Dream Ahead travelled sweetly for William Buick, before putting the race to bed with the minimum of fuss.

Despite reports that the horse will go for the Shadwell Middle Park Stakes on October 1, followed by the Jumeirah Dewhurst Stakes on October 16, Simcock on Monday confirmed that Khalifa Dasmal's juvenile will head to one or the other of those targets but is unlikely to tackle both races.

"It will be the Middle Park or Dewhurst but I doubt it would be both. I'm looking forward to stepping up to seven furlongs at some stage, I'm sure he will stay," the trainer told At The Races.

Simcock is keen to aim the son of Diktat at the 2,000 Guineas next year, although once again stressed the importance of underfoot conditions. He added: "I genuinely think he could be a Guineas horse. I think he will stay but I will not risk him on fast ground. It had probably dried out to good ground on Sunday and there is more to come with a bit of cut."

The victory is bound to have alerted racing's super powers and, although keen to keep Dream Ahead at his Trillium Place yard, Simcock was philosophical about the threat of a big-money offer being made for the unbeaten colt.

The trainer added: "The owner is very keen to keep him but no horse isn't for sale. Every horse has its price and we will cross that bridge if we come to it."
