Leather cut for Irish Derby after smooth win

Report: Curragh, Sunday

TRM Silver Stakes (Listed) 1m2f, 3yo

TRADING LEATHER, second in the Betfred Dante Stakes and third in the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas, got his head in front when he captured the TRM Silver Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.

Trained by Jim Bolger, Trading Leather returned at 5-4 after seeing off the Ballydoyle pair Lines Of Battle and Kingston Jamaica.

The winner is now likely to head for the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby back at the Curragh on June 29. Paddy Power went 6-1 (from 9), while Boylesports are 6-1 (from 10) for the Classic.

"I expect he'll be aimed at that," said Bolger. "I haven't got my team sorted yet but he's the only definite one.

"I was expecting a good show, but you can never be sure coming to the Curragh.

"He is very straightforward and needs good or faster ground. I am hoping the weather will be like it is now for the Irish Derby."

Lines Of Battle, the UAE Derby winner who was seventh in the Kentucky Derby on his last start, ran with credit in second on his first start in Ireland since October.
