Riposte camp optimistic about Irish Oaks glory
SIR HENRY CECIL saddled three Irish Oaks winners during his legendary career and Riposte bids to give the Warren Place team another triumph in the Darley-sponsored Group 1 at the Curragh on Saturday evening.
Lady Cecil took over the licence when her husband died last month and Riposte provided her with a memorable and emotional win in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot.
That performance prompted connections of the Khalid Abdullah homebred to supplement her - at a cost of €40,000 - for the race the master trainer last won with Ramruma in 1999.
"We were thrilled with Riposte's victory in the Ribblesdale Stakes," said Lady Cecil.
"Henry always had lot of belief in the filly's potential and she justified that at Ascot.
"She took that race well and her preparations ahead of the Irish Oaks have gone smoothly."
Riposte, who will be ridden by Tom Queally in the €400,000 event, is 5-2 joint-favourite with Oaks winner Talent for the race.
"We have been pleased with her recent work and, while this is another step up, we are hopeful that she can take it in her stride," Cecil added.
"She travelled well to Ireland and arrived safely."
