Custom Cut holds on
in Gladness Stakes

Report: Curragh, Sunday

Big Bad Bob Gladness Stakes (Group 3) 7f, 4yo+

THE front-running Custom Cut produced a 25-1 shocker in the Group 3 Gladness Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday when he held off the late challenge of Nephrite, a one-time Classic hope for Aidan O'Brien last season.

Trained by George Kent and ridden by Ronan Whelan, Custom Cut saw off his rivals to land the biggest success of his career.

"Today was a fact-finding mission," said Kent, who could run the winner in the Heritage Stakes next weekend.

"He doesn't need to lead, nor does he need bad ground. He has never let us down and will get an entry at Leopardstown."

Nephrite's connections were delighted with his first start for 350 days and a drop in trip could be next for the Pivotal colt.
