Red Cadeaux gains compensation for Dunlop

RED CADEAUX provided trainer Ed Dunlop with ample compensation on his jaunt to Ireland when relishing the soft ground conditions in the At The Races Curragh Cup.
Dunlop, who withdrew Snow Fairy from the Stobart Ireland Pretty Polly Stakes due to the rain-softened ground, was among the winners after the five-year-old pulled nine lengths clear of Zerashan.
Dunlop, who saddles Native Khan in Sunday's Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby, said: "We knew he'd like the ground, he was very impressive today and it's a great day. We've discussed things like the Melbourne Cup and the Irish St Leger but we'll bask in today's glory and think about it later."
A Listed handicap winner on his first start of the season, Red Cadeaux was hampered badly when challenging at Pontefract last Sunday in a Listed race won by Distant Memories.
Owned by the Hong Kong-based Ronnie Arculli, Red Cadeaux made his first foray into Group company a memorable one with a wide-margin success.
Ridden by Tom McLaughlin, the pair sat in midfield, some six lengths off Admiral Of The Red, who set the early pace. As the leaders turned for home and those up with the early pace began to fade, Red Cadeaux, who returned at 7-2, and Zerashan, who sat in last through the early stages, looked like fighting out the finish.
However, Zerashan was no match for the son of Cadeaux Genereux as the winner drew right away with the rest of the field well strung out.
