Buick confirmed for Libertarian ride
CONNECTIONS of Derby second Libertarian have confirmed William Buick will ride the progressive colt when he bids to go one better in Saturday's Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh.
The son of New Approach, who has been supplemented for the race, has been bought by Godolphin and will be having his final start for trainer Elaine Burke.
Buick, aboard for Libertarian's Dante win and Derby second, will again be in the saddle according to Burke's husband Karl, who added that their stable star had improved since Epsom.
Speaking at a media morning at the Curragh on Monday, he said: "He's definitely come on. William Buick will ride him."
Sugar Boy, who beat Libertarian and Derby third Galileo Rock in Sandown's Classic Trial in April, worked at the Curragh on Monday.
Trainer Patrick Prendergast said: "He needed to do that on grass and has worked as well as ever."
He has often been ridden prominently, but jockey Chris Hayes is not worried if tactics change.
He said: "It could be busy up front, but that's not a problem as I wouldn't mind getting a lead."
Derby winner Ruler Of The World is also set to line up and is likely to start favourite for the race his trainer Aidan O'Brien has won a record ten times.
