CriticalMoment makes all for narrow Listed win

Report: Goodwood, Saturday

Bluesq.com "For 5 Places In Stewards' Cup" Stakes (Registered As Thoroughbred Stakes) (Listed Race) 1m (3yo)

CRITICAL MOMENT held off a fearsome challenge from Desert Myth to win the Listed race in a photo-finish on the final day of Glorious Goodwood.

The 7-2 shot made all under jockey Michael Hills. Field Of Dream finished third under Kieren Fallon.

The Barry Hills-trained Critical Moment broke well from stall nine and was soon joined at the head of affairs by Quarrel and Godolphin's Long Lashes.

Several made efforts to reel in the leader around the two furlong marker - but Critical Moment held firm. San Cassiano took on the baton from Frankie Dettori on Long Lashes as their challenge faded.

But it was the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Desert Myth, dropping back in trip after finishing second in a 1m2f conditions race at Leicester, who proved the most serious threat close home.

The winning trainer said: "The rails didn't seem to be favoured earlier on in the week, but he's battledon well.

"We ran him in this race because we didn't want to run him in a handicap, where he could have got a bad draw. I thought he'd just hold on [in the last 50 yards] but he wouldn't want to go much further."

Stoute said of Desert Myth: "It was a good run."

Trainer Luca Cumani said of Field Of Dream: "I'm very pleased, he's much more settled now and has shown us we can step him up in distance.
