Credit Swap makes successful hurdles debut

CREDIT SWAP made a successful transition to hurdling at Leicester on Tuesday with a comfortable victory in division one of the 2m novice hurdle.

Winner of the Cambridgeshire at Newmarket on his last start for trainer Michael Wigham, Credit Swap lined up for new trainer Venetia Williams at Leicester after being sold privately.

Williams had expressed concern beforehand that the six-year-old might run keenly, but he settled well in the middle of the pack and jumped smoothly on the whole.

Turning into the straight he began to improve to challenge leader Alarazi at the final flight, which he dived at, before dispelling stamina queries by running on strongly in the soft ground to score by four and a half lengths.

His jockey Aidan Coleman was impressed, and said: "I'm over the moon with him. He settled quite well and jumped brilliantly before quickening up.

"He stayed well enough too - you'd have to [stay well] in that [ground]."
