Cowell calls on O'Brien for Prohibit royal prep

JOSEPH O'BRIEN will be at Maisons-Laffitte today to partner 2011 King's Stands Stakes hero Prohibit, whom he may ride in next week's race at Royal Ascot.

Robert Cowell's eight-year-old, a 33-1 chance to follow up, is on the comeback trail in the Listed Prix Hampton following a knee operation but the trainer has been impressed with his form at home.

"We wanted someone to come over here and ride him because I think I've got him in really tip-top condition, his work has been out of the top drawer and he seems to have retained all his old enthusiasm," said Cowell.

"I wanted whoever was going to ride him to have a good sit on him and get a feel for him and then ride him at Royal Ascot if he were able to go there. Hopefully, that will be the case with Joseph.

"He's an eight-year-old now with issues so we don't really know how it's going to pan out for him. He's got to still want to race but if he wants to we've kept our options open, so he's in the King's Stand and  he's in at the Curragh [in the Sapphire Stakes]."

Cowell also fields Prix du Petit Couvert winner Monsieur Joe, who shoulders an extra 6lb, while George Baker runs Humidor, who finished seventh at Longchamp last month.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained Raushan bids to make it two-from-two in Salisbury's feature, the EBF Margadale Fillies´ Handicap.

A winner over today's course and distance on debut, she faces six rivals including the Roger Varian-trained Iffraaj Pink, also a winner on her last start.

Today's key pointers

The sire Camacho has a fine 6-17 (35%) record with his runner at Salisbury. Previous C&D winner Princess Cammie goes for him in the 4.05

Since 2003, when Dane O'Neill and Henry Candy team up for handicaps at Sailsbury, they've won seven times and placed on another ten occasions. They team up in the 4.05 and 4.35.

Richard Hughes's form figures on 3yos in Lingfield AW maidens since the start of 2012 reads 21211122111. He rides Intrepid Jack's half-sister Josefa Goya in the 7.30.
