Frozen track claims Ayr's fixture on Monday

AYR'S meeting scheduled for Monday has become the latest victim of the freezing weather gripping Britain, with a frozen track causing the meeting to be abandoned.

Taunton's Monday fixture has also been abandoned.

Ayr clerk of the course Hazel Peplinksi said on Thursday morning: "We got down to -9c overnight and it's -5c now. The frost is well in the ground, it's in to about six inches deep, and we've got three inches of snow on top with ice.

"The forecast gave us no prospect of improvement."

The course is next scheduled to race on February 13.
