Sandown 'up against it' for Tolworth fixture

SANDOWN will inspect at 7.30am on Saturday to assess prospects for racing that day, but clerk of the course Andrew Cooper told on Friday that they "are up against it" in attempting to beat the weather.

Although the frost on Thursday night was less severe than forecast, temperatures are expected to dip to -3c on Friday night.

"If that proves to be correct we face a big challenge to get racing on because the daytime temperature will not rise to more than 2c," said Cooper.

The course has covered vulnerable points on the course, including in front of the grandstand and other shaded areas.

Should racing go ahead, a high-class field of five will line up for the Grade 1 Blue Square Tolworth Hurdle.

These are headed by the unbeaten Nicky Henderson-trained Oscar Whisky and the exciting Paul Nicholls-trained Ghizao.

Salden Licht, successful on his only start over hurdles, William Hogarth and Supernoverre complete the field.
