Lando bidding to go one better in Gerling-Preis
Preview: Germany, Sunday 4.15pm BST
Cologne: Gerling-Preis (Group 2) 1m4f, 4yo+
SIR LANDO (Wido Neuroth/Fredrik Johansson) is the only foreign runner in the Group 2 Gerling-Preis, highlight of Sunday's card at Cologne.
The Norwegian hope was runner-up to Scalo in this €70,000 event a year ago and, despite a poor strike rate, has strong claims once again.
His seven rivals are all four-year-olds and most of them have alreadymet several times, notably in last July's Deutsches Derby.
On that occasion Earl of Tinsdal (Andreas Wöhler/Eduardo Pedroza) finished runner-up to his stable companion Waldpark, with Saltas (Peter Schiergen/ Andrasch Starke) third, Lindenthaler (Schiergen/Filip Minarik) seventh, and Silvaner (Schiergen/ Terry Hellier) ninth.
Earl of Tinsdal is saddled with a Group 1 penalty for winning the Rheinland-Pokal over this course and distance.
Freddie Tylicki won the main prep race for this on Pavel Vovcenko's Mighty Mouse, but he in effect stole the race by his front-running tactics and they may not work again in this stronger company.
Atempo (Jens Hirschberger/ Adrie de Vries) ran on well to finish fourth that day, with Silvaner fifth and Fair Boss, now to be partnered by Kieren Fallon, seventh.
