Virtuoso jumping display hands Sizing easy victory
Report: Clonmel, Thursday
Clonmel Oil Chase (Grade 2) 2m4f, 5yo+
SIZING EUROPE made it two-from-two for the season as he demolished his four Clonmel Oil Chase rivals with a faultless display of jumping.
Facing a field that included Tranquil Sea, winner of this race in 2010 and 2011, Sizing Europe jumped neatly and made his rivals look leaden-footed as he accelerated away in the final quarter.
Paddy Power cut the Henry de Bromhead-trained ten-year-old to 10-1 (from 12) for the King George VI Chase on December 26, a race his trainer said he was "giving serious consideration to". Boylesports went 12-1 (from 16) for the same race.
However, De Bromhead warned that Sizing Europe had two alternative targets. "We have three options for him over Christmas - the King George, the Lexus Chase and the Paddy Power Dial-A-Bet Chase at Leopardstown," he said.
"We're keen to stick to our plan regarding the ground and are giving serious consideration to the King George.
"I'd very much like to see him running on good ground over three miles and it's a race Alan [Potts, owner] would love to have a runner in."
Sizing Europe has twice attempted the King George trip of 3m in the Down Royal Champion Chase and twice finished second (albeit on the first occasion, 2010, behind Kauto Star). He has yet to win at a trip further than today's 2m4f.
Yet the 1-7 favourite looked mighty impressive as he cruised to a 20-length win over second-placed Magnanimity and on the basis of this type of performance would not be without his supporters for Kempton's December 26 favourite.
"To go and win like that was an awesome performance - he's nearly getting better!" De Bromhead said.
Jockey Andrew Lynch added: "He was very good, jumped super and was almost running away with me."
