Sizing Europe out to star in Cheltenham prep

CONNECTIONS of Sizing Europe have yet to decide which race he will contest at the Cheltenham Festival but will hope he can head there after a winning performance in Sunday's Boylesports.com Tied Cottage Chase at Punchestown.

The high-class 11-year-old, an Arkle winner in 2010 and a Champion Chase winner a year later, is long odds-on to land the Tied Cottage for the second year running.

Second to Finian's Rainbow in the Champion Chase last term, Sizing Europe is again entered in that as well as the Ryanair Chase and Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup.

First, though, he tackles the Tied Cottage and trainer Henry de Bromhead said: "It looks a nice opportunity for him, but there are always horses in these races to worry about if you don't bring your A game and Blazing Tempo and Foildubh are good horses.

"We backed off him and gave him an easy time for a few days last month after his Grade 1 at Leopardstown over Christmas.

"I've been happy with him over the past few weeks and, thankfully, everything has gone to plan."

Sizing Europe is the headline name at Punchestown, but Don Cossack could be a potential star of the future.

He fell last time, but has the chance to get back on track in the Racing UK Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle.

A packed card also includes the Dan Moore Memorial Handicap Chase, transferred from Fairyhouse, a Pertemps qualifier and Grand National trial.

Cheltenham clues could also be on offer at Musselburgh with leading Racing Post Arkle contender Overturn in action.

The track also hosts trials for the Albert Bartlett and Triumph Hurdle and the Scottish Champion Chase and County Hurdle.
