Cirrus Des Aigles: was back to his brilliant best at Longchamp

CIRRUS DES AIGLES was back to his brilliant best as he stormed home in the Prix Dollar under Christophe Soumillon to take the Group 2 contest for a record third time.

The Corine Barande-Barbe-trained seven-year-old had been somewhat out of sorts this season, leading some to question if he was indeed the same horse that entered the season as the highest-rated in training.

"I am so pleased," said Barnde-Barbe. "I knew he was able to win and he won more easily than I thought. Christophe told me that after the first [winning] post he relaxed like he always does here otherwise he would have won by 12 lengths. He will go to Ascot on October 19."

The three-time Group 1 winner settled in sixth place throughout the early stages as Planteur, ridden by Olivier Peslier, set a formidable early pace.

However, the fast pace seemed to only play to Cirrus Des Aigles' strength as he breezed alongside the leaders at a canter inside the final two furlongs and powered on before easing to the line to win by a length and three-quarters.

The eyecatching performance did not elude the bookmakers and after Barande-Barbe confirmed that he will go to Ascot on October 19, Boylesports now go 4-1 from 8-1 for the Champion Stakes - a race he has a good record in having won it in 2011 prior to finishing second to the mighty Frankel last season.
