Catlin rides landmark 1,000th winner
CHRIS CATLIN rode his 1,000th career win in memorable fashion streaking clear on Miss Cato in the last race at Sandown's evening meeting on Thursday.
Catlin, champion apprentice in 2001, has had to wait two weeks to reach fourfigures and returned to the jockeys changing room to a ringing round of applause.
"I can't remember my first winner," admitted Catlin. "My biggest win was probably Royal Power for Mick Channon in the German 2,000 Guineas."
Catlin, who has won a couple of all-weather titles back in 2008 and 2009, also won the big-money Redcar Two-Year-Old Trophy on Obe Gold for Channon, who he was apprenticed to after leaving the British Racing School.
Asked about ambitions this year, Catlin added: "I'd like to get back to having 100 winners in a season. I did it four out of five years (up to 2009)."
Last year his total fell to 54 and he admitted: "I have been struggling with the new whip rules and getting bans."
Miss Cato was his 27th winner of this season from 216 rides.
