BONFIRE is set to make his return at Chester next month when he will put his Investec Derby claims on the line in the Stobart Barristers Dee Stakes.
Trained by Andrew Balding for Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, Bonfire is a 20-1 chance for the Derby and was last seen finishing an unlucky-in-running third to French Fifteen in the Group 1 Criterium International at Saint-Cloud in October.
Kris Kin was the last horse to land both the 1m2½f Group 3 Dee Stakes and the Derby in 2003 while Oath also completed the double in 1999 for Sir Henry Cecil.
Harry Herbert, director at Highclere, said: "Bonfire goes for the Dee Stakes at Chester and he's in good form. He had a slightly cloudy scope the other day, otherwise he might have run this week.
"He's a very talented and professional horse and we're all very excited about it."
