Banoffee benefits from sweet Fallon ride

Report: Chester, Wednesday

BANOFFEE came from last to first under a sweet ride from Kieren Fallon to make it two wins from two starts.

The Hughie Morrison-trained filly was dropped out to the back of the field by the six-time champion jockey as they jumped from the stalls and she still had all her rivals bar one to pass racing into the home straight for the second time.

Fallon clung on to the prized rails position though and Banoffee flew home to reel in Gertrude Versed who had looked to make a decisive move under William Buick turning for home. Jathabah finished third.

The winning jockey was impressed by the effort of his mount. "She was unbelievable," Fallon said after her length and a quarter win at odds of 9-1.

"She ran too keen early but she is obviously a smart filly to come from where she did.

"The way she quickened off a fast gallop, she must be really smart."

Gertrude Versed saw her odds for the Investec Oaks trimmed to 33-1 after finishing second. The winner has to be supplemented for the Epsom Classic at a cost of £30,000. It remains to be seen whether that will be the case but Morrsion said: "She was not showing much back in March so I didn't think it was worth the money to enter [in the Oaks].

"We'll have to discuss it and she will probably go straight there. She's a naturally good racehorse and with a great character."

Paddy Power inserted the winner to the Oaks market at 14-1.
