Super Stan conquers rivals in Skybet stroll

Report: Cheltenham, Thursday Handicap Chase (Grade 3) 2m5f, 5yo+

THE Venetia Williams-trained Stanwas given a smart ride by the promising Aidan Coleman as he ran out an easy winner of the Handicap Chase.

The ten-year-old, who returned at 14-1, travelled well on the heels of Yes Sir and Private Be and quickened impressively on the home turn to see off his rivals in decisive fashion.

Fier Normand (25-1) was a distant second, while 9-2 favourite Hold Em just held off Lidjo De Rouge for third.

Coleman, who has now partnered Stan in three of his four wins over fences, said: "He jumped brilliant and travelled brilliant.

"He's special to me this horse, he gave me two big winners last season here and at Aintree.

"He's just shown today what he is about. That was a really good performance, he really quickened turning into the straight and went away from them like a good horse."

Williams said: "We are seeing the best of him at the ripe old age of ten. Heshowed stamina over two miles five today and I think he might well get three miles round here, which gives us extra options when he comes back to the Festival in March."
